Heads up, commuters! Don't forget to bring a copy of your National ID with you as you can get free rides at the LRT-2 and MRT-3 for one day only.

In an announcement by the Philippine Identification System, National ID holders can ride the LRT-2 and MRT-3 without paying fares on Sept. 16 only.

This is in celebration of the International Identity Day, which underscores the importance of having verifiable proof of identity.

The free ride will be available from 7:00 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. for passengers.

If you still don't have a physical card, fret not, as any format of the National ID will be accepted, whether it be in paper form or a digital copy.

In addition, National ID services such as registration, issuance of National ID in paper form, and assistance in accessing the digital National ID will be offered to passengers at the MRT-3 Cubao and Taft stations.

The National ID allows Filipinos easier access to financial, social protection, health, education, and other government services, aside from being a valid proof of identity to be used in public and private transactions.

It has no expiration date once issued to Filipino citizens, and it will only be renewed upon updating demographic and biometric information. On the other hand, those issued to resident aliens are only valid for one year but can be renewed annually.

The National ID program is open to everyone, including children from 0 to 4 years old. If you haven't registered yet, here's how to get started.
