Filipinos among top consumers of online shopping and streaming services—report

Filipinos are proving to be some of the most digitally active consumers in the world, leading the way in both online shopping and video streaming, according to a new global report.

In the latest report by media, social and consumer intelligence company Meltwater and creative agency We Are Social, the Philippines ranks 15th among countries with the most weekly online purchases.

The country has around 56.3% of internet users aged 16 years old and above who buy something online each week. This is slightly lower than the worldwide average of 56.5%.

The country with the highest weekly online purchases is Nigeria at 71.3%, followed by Thailand, Turkey, China, and Malaysia.

The Philippines has a higher rank among countries that have a preference for online shopping, sitting at ninth place with 61.3% users preferring to shop online rather than in a physical store. 

The top country is Brazil at 74.8%, followed by South Korea, Indonesia, Vietnam, and China.

Amazon, Temu, Flipkart, Shopee, and Shein emerged as the most used mobile shopping apps based on global monthly active users in August 2025.

As for streaming services, the Philippines ranks 26th among countries that pay for a TV or movie streaming service each month, at 34.7%. This is higher than the worldwide average at 31.1%

Filipinos spend a total of six hours and 37 minutes watching online streaming of TV content each week, higher than the global average of five hours.

The report relies on data up to October 2025. Their analysis revealed that the total number of people using the internet reached 6.04 billion by the start of the month, or 73.2% of the total population. 

Reported internet user figures have increased by 294 million or 5.1% over the past year.
