GUIDE: How to get the new MySSS Card that doubles as a debit card
The Social Security System recently launched the MySSS Card, which members can use both as a debit card and as an official ID for SSS transactions.
With RCBC as its first partner bank, the MySSS Card can be linked to a savings account. By merging social security benefits with digital banking, the card offers members “a comprehensive way to access benefits, loans, and pensions quickly and conveniently,” SSS said in a statement.
According to SSS president and chief executive officer Robert Joseph Montes De Claro, the MySSS Card will now automatically serve as the main disbursement account for SSS members.
“Once members apply for the MySSS Card, we will link their partner bank savings accounts to SSS for benefits, loans, and other proceeds. They no longer need to enroll the MySSS Card in the Disbursement Account Enrollment Module,” De Claro said.
SSS members can also use the new card for shopping, paying public transportation fares, and making online purchases.
While all UMID (Unified Multi-purpose Identification) cards remain valid, the new MySSS Card can be used in their place.
The card is equipped with an EMV chip, according to De Claro. With this extra layer of protection, the MySSS Card is integrated with the Philippine Identification System cVerify and biometric authentication, making it difficult to forge and use fraudulently.
How to get one
As of Oct. 1, SSS has begun accepting applications for the MySSS Card. RCBC, via its digital arm DiskarTech, will be the first bank to implement the card.
SSS enumerates the steps members need to take to apply for the card on the My.SSS Member Portal:
- Log in to your My.SSS account. If you don’t have an account yet, you may open one through the same page.
- Under the “Services” menu, choose the “MySSS Card” option.
- Review and update your personal details, then confirm once they are correct.
- Consent to SSS verifying your identity with National ID eVerify using your National ID photo.
- The site will do a facial scan. It will then ask you to choose your preferred partner bank; RCBC for now. SSS will later add other banks, including Asia United Bank, China Bank, and Union Bank of the Philippines.
- Agree to the terms and consent to SSS sharing your data with your chosen bank. By consenting, you are allowing the bank, in turn, to share your account details with SSS.
- Once done, a confirmation message will appear. You will also get an email in your registered address, as well as an inbox notification in your MySSS account.
- Use the online app of your chosen bank to access your account. Alternatively, you can go to your bank’s nearest branch.
- Complete the bank’s verification process and pay any applicable fees. You may choose to have the bank deliver your card to your preferred address for an additional fee.
- When your card is ready for pick-up or delivery, your bank will notify you on their app or via SMS.
The application fee will depend on your chosen bank. Make sure to pay within the bank’s given timeframe; otherwise, your application will be cancelled.
Banks within Metro Manila will release the MySSS Card within 15 working days after the account is successfully opened. Outside Metro Manila, banks may take 20 working days to release MySSS Cards.
Once you successfully get a MySSS Card, it will automatically become your main disbursement account for SSS benefits.
