The loved ones of teenager Celeste Rivas Hernandez are grieving after police found her rotting body in American singer-songwriter d4vd’s car.

The victim's family mourned their loss after the discovery, describing her as “a beloved daughter, sister, cousin, and friend.”

In a statement put up on a GoFundMe page on Sept. 17, her loved ones wrote, “As many of you know, Celeste Rivas Hernandez has been identified as the body found last week. Her family is heartbroken and devastated by this tragic loss.”

Hernandez was first reported missing on April 15, 2024 in Lake Elsinore, California.

On Sept. 8 this year, a dismembered, decomposing body, eventually identified as Hernandez’s, was discovered wrapped in plastic in the front trunk of the singer’s Tesla. The vehicle was at a Hollywood impound lot.

Hernandez’s body was discovered when a call was placed to the police regarding foul odors coming from an abandoned Tesla in Hollywood Hills. Investigators later revealed the car had been in the tow yard for several days before the odors were reported.

The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner’s Office found Hernandez’s body to be “severely decomposed.” It would need more time to determine the cause of death.

Eerie connections

Since the discovery of her body, connections between her and d4vd—whose legal name is David Anthony Burke—have cropped up.

The case is being investigated as a homicide. According to ABC Los Angeles, police executed a search warrant on Sept. 17 at the Hollywood Hills mansion where d4vd, 20, has been staying.

New York Post reported that in 2023, fan chatrooms were abuzz with rumors about d4vd dating a teenage girl named Celeste. Social media users also said that around the same time, D4vd made a track, unreleased, that includes a mention of the name “Celeste” twice.

According to TMZ, Hernandez’s mother said that before her daughter went missing, the teen had been dating a man named David.

Another connection is a tattoo that reads “Shhh”—both Hernandez and d4vd have it on their right index fingers.

d4vd, whose hit Romantic Homicide was released in 2022, was in the middle of his US tour for his first album Withered when Hernandez’s body was found.

Although he hasn’t released a statement regarding the investigation, his spokesperson has told media that he is “fully cooperating with the authorities.” d4vd cancelled his Sept. 17 show in Seattle; he is slated to perform next on Sept. 19 at San Francisco’s The Warfield.
