Published Oct 17, 2025 4:55 am

The Credit Card Association of the Philippines continues its mission to build a smarter, safer, and more inclusive financial system for Filipinos.

On Oct. 9, this commitment was reaffirmed during its 45th anniversary celebration, “Celebrating the Past, Powering the Digital Future,” at Dusit Thani Manila in Makati City.

CCAP Chairman Rolando Ebreo shares his welcome remarks, emphasizing the association’s commitment to harnessing digital transformation and artificial intelligence to create smarter, safer, and more inclusive financial experiences for every Filipino.

“Forty-five years ago, CCAP was founded to drive collaboration, innovation, and responsible growth in the credit card industry,” said CCAP Chairman Rolando Ebreo.

“Since then, we’ve advanced from manual and paper-based systems to digital platforms and real-time payments, evolving with our customers’ needs and our leaders’ vision.”

The event not only served as a look back but also as a call to action for what lies ahead.

It brought together industry leaders, partners, and colleagues to pursue one common goal.

“Our aim is to future-proof the financial system, where innovation is responsible and consumers are empowered,” shared Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas Deputy Governor Lyn Javier.

“We strive to build a financial ecosystem that is digital by design and inclusive by intent.”

A day of meaningful conversation and collective inspiration

CCAP has long been a platform for industry dialogue and partnership, fostering alignment on key issues.

The milestone event carried this forward with discussions on banking’s future, shifting consumer behavior, security challenges, and Artificial Intelligence’s growing role in finance.

AI adoption, according to the speakers, is key to making purchasing more convenient and enhancing the overall customer experience.

However, challenges are inevitable as the credit card industry embraces new ways of doing business.

Fraud, digital scams, and identity theft continue to threaten this new era of payments.

“In the Philippines, the PNP Anti-Cybercrime Group recorded a 200 percent surge in cybercrime cases, including phishing, online scams, and business email compromise,” explained Advintel Inc. Country General Manager Michelle Anne Chan.

The discussion emphasized that emerging risks can be effectively addressed with the right tools and strategies.

Participants also gained practical insights on improving customer service through technology and innovation, with local and international experts sharing industry best practices.

Beyond the milestone

The one-day event took the celebration up a notch with interactive booths from EastWest, UnionPay International, Mastercard, JCB Philippines, Visa, Idemia Philippines, TransUnion, and other partners offering exciting freebies and activities.

Guests also enjoyed generous raffle prizes courtesy of the sponsors.

CCAP Chairman Rolando Ebreo and President Geraldine Liggayu present a plaque of appreciation and a bouquet of flowers to BSP Deputy Governor Lyn Javier for joining and delivering the keynote message at the Credit Card Association of the Philippines’ 45th Anniversary celebration.

“It’s truly inspiring to see how much we’ve accomplished together,” CCAP President Geraldine Liggayu remarked.

“Today, we took a moment to celebrate where we’ve come from—the strong foundation built over 45 years by leaders and members who believed in the power of responsible credit.”

“This anniversary is not just a celebration of our longevity, but a testament to our collaboration, resilience, and shared vision amid economic shifts, technological advancement, and changing consumer behavior,” concluded CCAP Treasurer Harrison Gue.

The celebration underscored its role as a unifying force in the credit card industry, driving progress while ensuring that growth remains sustainable and customer-centric.
