The Philippine Sports Commission and the Philippine Tennis Association are in talks to potentially host the first-ever WTA 125 tournament in the country in 2026.

The PSC announced that they are already coordinating with the Women's Tennis Association for the tournament, slated to take place from Jan. 26 to Feb. 1, 2026.

"This is more than a tournament. This is about giving our athletes the chance to test themselves against the world’s best, inspiring the next generation, and placing the Philippines firmly on the global tennis map. The greatest champions began their journeys on public courts. By opening access and investing in world-class events, we are giving Filipinos the same chance to dream big and achieve greatness," PSC Chairman Patrick Gregorio said in a statement.

WTA requires a minimum of three premium courts for tournaments at the 125 level.

Additionally, the Philippines is set to host the International Tennis Federation (ITF) J30 Tournament from late November to Dec. 7, 2025, which will see players aged 13 to 18 from across Asia.

PSC also announced plans to potentially open the Rizal Memorial courts to the public, along with the development of the Philippine Tennis Center in New Clark City.

Filipina tennis ace Alex Eala is currently playing in the Suzhou Open. She will now advance to the quarterfinals after beating Belgium's Greet Minnen.

WTA 125 is a series of tournaments that "offers both established WTA players and talented newcomers the ability to build their careers and progress up to the highest levels of the WTA Tour." It includes Cali Open, Guadalajara 125, Jingshan Tennis Open, and the Suzhou WTA 125.
