Trillion Peso March organizers staging another anti-corruption protest this November
Another huge anti-corruption protest is being organized by the same team behind the Trillion Peso March.
The Philippine STAR reported that the Church Leaders Council for National Transformation is joining forces with other faith-based organizations and civil society groups to put together another rally "to sustain outrage over the money lost to corruption in government projects."
Set for Bonifacio Day on Nov. 30, the upcoming event will feature different activities like noise barrages, candlelight vigils, masses, and wearing of white ribbons to fight for "justice, truth, and accountability."
"This will be bigger, wider and fiercer than the Sept. 21 rally," Judy Ann Miranda, secretary-general of Partido Manggagawa, said in a press conference.
Details are still being finalized.
Hearings at the House of Representatives and the Senate revealed billions of pesos lost to corruption, which prompted the formation of the Independent Commission for Infrastructure, which is specifically investigating irregularities in flood control projects in the last 10 years.
On Sept. 21, the 53rd anniversary of martial law declared by the late dictator Ferdinand Marcos Sr., thousands of Filipinos took to the streets to protest corruption in multibillion-peso flood control projects.
In Metro Manila, the “Baha sa Luneta” rally, which was organized by activist groups and university students, saw thousands of people on the streets by Sunday morning. The “Trillion Peso March” that afternoon, referring to the trillions allegedly lost to systemic corruption, at the People Power Monument on EDSA saw the closure of all northbound lanes due to the swelling of the crowd.
