InterContinental Danang: A portal to paradise
Some places awaken your mind, others stir your heart, but rarely do they do both. I have just arrived at a destination where dreams feel unnecessary, even forgotten. Because what greets you here is the superlative of a dream—something more vivid, soulful, and exquisitely alive.
The journey itself feels like a gentle unveiling. As we wind through grand mountain roads, with the sea beside us and the waves murmuring their own little welcome, InterContinental Danang Sun Peninsula Resort appears as if straight out of a fairytale—neither a resort nor a destination, but a land carved out by time and blessed by beauty.
There’s a lot to take in when you enter the lobby; each corner seems to carry a part of a dream you were not even aware you had. You walk along in deep thought, gazing at the magic, looking like Alice in a modern Wonderland, as genuine questions come to mind: Is all this real or just a figment of the imagination? The gigantic wooden mirrors and high-arched windows display a grandiose view of Danang’s only private beach with waving coconut trees. As the ocean stretches to the horizon, as if whispering a promise, the world suddenly feels still.
The resort evokes colonial elegance with a modern soul. It is grand, but never imposing—warm, personal, poetic. Every detail whispers intention. The culinary journey commences at Citron, one of the most beautiful restaurants offering breathtaking views high above the sea. Playful and uniquely shaped tables like inverted conical hats or nón lás offer sweeping panoramas of the green Son Tra Peninsula. Vietnamese food here is treated with deference but not pretension.
Home to La Maison 1888, Central Vietnam’s only Michelin-starred restaurant, it has retained this coveted star for the second time running. Herein lies a fine French dining experience, located in a wonderful colonial mansion, where courses boast stories and, of course, taste as rich as they come. While you’re at it, sneak into the elegant and hidden Buffalo Bar for a glass of wine, a digestif, or some bubbles. Barefoot, on the other hand, presents casual beachside grilled meats, barbecue, and seafood—best savored, well, barefoot, under the warm luminescence of the sunset. And then there’s Long Bar, where craft cocktails and light bites are enjoyed by the sea. Each venue is a destination in itself—designed not only for dining but for creating memories.
Even the toilets at the resort are reminiscent of a movie set! With dark black and mustard-hued tones, low-key lighting, and designer finishes, they look like Indiana Jones film sets—something adventurous, both stylish and luxurious all at once. No wonder, as the design is by none other than Bill Bensley, whose projects are a wondrous balance of practicality and whimsy, and an honest regard for nature.
At InterContinental Danang, all rooms, suites, and villas offer uninterrupted ocean views—from hillside heights to beachfront hideaways. Here I sit in my ocean-view room, an oasis of rich, warm woods and neutral fabrics that strikes a balance between elegant and understated. Classic, that’s the word. Every single texture coaxing one into inhaling just a little more. And then there’s the balcony, where the real fun begins as you approach it.
Before your eyes lies a panorama, a bay comparable to emeralds and sapphires, jesting under sunlight kisses. The sea breeze comes brushing through the air with some warmth and a certain saltiness. Time almost stops, and something relaxes within you. This is not just any hotel room; it is a source of coming back to silence, to stillness, to oneself.
InterContinental Danang is not just a destination. It’s an awakening. A place where luxury is never loud, but always present—in the curve of a chair, the smile of a staff member, the fragrance of lemongrass drifting through the air. Here, you don’t just check in. You come home to the dream you didn’t know you had.
