This year's musical theatre rave was the ultimate Halloween party for pop culture geeks

As an often partygoer in Katipunan and Poblacion, I wasn’t sure what to expect from a “musical theater rave.” The concept felt almost too niche to work. But the moment I stepped in, it all clicked. The crowd was alive and singing along to all the Broadway hits played, and everywhere I looked, fans had fully embraced Halloween with their musical ensembles.

StageDoor by GMG Productions threw its second annual Musical Theatre Rave on Oct. 24 and 25, creating a celebration that blended show tunes with an energetic party. But during the Oct. 24 event that PhilSTAR L!fe attended, it was the costumes that truly stole the show.

Meanwhile, Dane and JL turned heads as Little Red Riding Hood and Snow White.

Even a mother-and-daughter duo dressed as the Addams Family joined in, proving that the musical rave wasn’t just for the young; It was for all ages and generations of musical lovers.

DJ Dignos and DJ Unchristal kept the floor alive, spinning remixes of hits from Wicked, Hamilton, High School Musical, The Greatest Showman, and more.

Each beat sent fans jumping and belting their favorite lines. At one point, ABBA's Dancing Queen played, and the crowd formed a Conga Line on the dance floor—it was a moment that felt straight out of a musical.

@philstarlife What happens when show tunes and rave meet? We got to attend StageDoor's Musical Theatre Rave year 2 and it was a night filled with a high-energy crowd singing along to their faves from 'Wicked,' 'Hamilton,' and more. @gmg.stagedoor #StageDoorbyGMG ♬ original sound - philstarlife

The night’s energy carried over to the Musical Lip Sync Extravaganza, where guests took center stage with performances of Waving Through a Window and I Won’t Say (I’m in Love). Winners took home exciting prizes, including tickets to upcoming shows like Spring Awakening: The Musical and Shrek: The Musical.

The event also welcomed first-time guests, including Bree, Casey, Teresa, and Abby visiting from abroad, who got to experience the one-of-a-kind musical rave for the very first time and danced the night away alongside local fans.

By the end of the night, even a non–musical theater fan like me had found myself humming show tunes and wondering which musical to watch next, preparing for next year’s musical theater rave.
