Halle Berry seemingly reacts to ex-husband's comment that she wasn't 'motherly' in their marriage
Halle Berry appeared to have posted a response to her ex-husband David Justice’s viral comment that she didn’t seem “motherly” during their marriage.
Celebrating her 59th birthday on Aug. 14, the Academy Award-winning actress posted an Instagram carousel of her tropical vacation with boyfriend, musician Van Hunt, and her two children. She captioned it with “Phew…! cooking, cleaning and mothering.”
The subtle shade came after her ex-husband Justice appeared on former NBA player Matt Barnes’ podcast All the Smoke, where he discussed his marriage to Berry from 1993 to 1997.
“My wisdom around relationships just wasn’t vast. I’m looking at my mom, and I’m a Midwest guy, so in my mind, I’m thinking a wife at that time should cook, clean,” Justice, who is a retired Major League Baseball player, said on the podcast.
“At that time, as a young guy, (I was with Halle and she) don’t cook, don’t clean, don’t really seem like motherly,” he added.
Justice also clarified that the marriage “never had any major issues” that led to its breakdown. He attributed it to being “young” and having only one “real relationship” before the actress. Both Justice and Berry were 27 when they wed.
Justice has been married to entrepreneur and former model Rebecca Villalobos since 2001.
Berry, meanwhile, has been in a relationship with Hunt since 2020. She was previously married to singer and actor Eric Benét from 2001 to 2003, then to actor Olivier Martinez from 2013 to 2015. She is a mother to 17-year-old Nahla, whom she shares with previous boyfriend Gabriel Aubry, and 11-year-old Maceo-Robert, whom she shares with Martinez.
