MNL48 to change group name, operating company name by January 2026
MNL48 will make major changes to the group in 2026.
In its statement on Dec. 29, MNL48 announced upcoming changes, describing them as the start of a new chapter while honoring the group’s history since its founding in 2018.
"We would like to inform you that MNL48 plans to change both its operating company name and group name in January 2026," the statement read.
"This decision has been made as part of our efforts to move forward into a new chapter, while cherishing the history, experiences, and strong bonds we have built together with our fans over the years," it added. "The spirit of MNL48 and the dedication of its members will remain unchanged."
More details about the new group names and upcoming plans have yet to be announced.
"We sincerely thank all our fans for their continued support, and we kindly ask for your ongoing understanding and encouragement," it concluded.
MNL48 currently operates under MNL48 Inc. with Shingo Sato as president, and Lynn Hazuki as producer. The latter also co-directs with Taro Katsumata.
The group was formed through a talent search aired on It's Showtime in 2018.
Currently comprising 25 members, MNL48 is a sister group of AKB48, which was founded in 2006. The pioneering group also inspired other sister groups, including BNK48 and JKT48.
They made a major comeback in April during the MNL48: Reboot and Rise mini festival, and recently bagged the P-Pop Spotlight Award at the 10th PPOP Music Awards.
Their songs include Pag-ibig Fortune Cookie, Ikaw ang Melody, Talulot ng Sakura, and Palusot Ko'y Maybe, among others.
