Where to see migratory birds in Bulacan
When the climate gets cooler, birds temporarily move to warmer regions at certain times of the year to survive. But did you know the Philippines plays host to thousands of birds?
Visitors can witness massive flocks of birds circling the skies or gathering on the mudflats to feed. The best part is that you don’t have to be a professional to witness this natural spectacle.
According to the Provincial Environment and Natural Resources Office of Bulacan, these travelers congregate along the Manila Bay coastline, specifically in the coastal villages of Masukol in Paombong, Pugad in Hagonoy, Pamarawan in the City of Malolos, Tawiran in Obando, and Ubihan in the City of Meycauayan, between October and March.
Rolly Mulato, head of PENRO Bulacan, told The Philippine STAR that the Asian Waterbird Census will determine exactly how many species have arrived in the province this season and the health of the local ecosystems they depend on.
Meanwhile, May Arlene Torres of the provincial tourism office noted that local nature enthusiasts and bird-watching groups are already frequenting these spots. For those who want a bit of guidance, the City of Malolos offers a tourism program in its coastal villages where visitors can conduct informal bird-watching. (with reports from Ramon Efren Lazaro)
