What we know so far about Severe Tropical Storm Tino

The end of Undas holiday is met with gloomy skies.

According to PAGASA's update as of 8 a.m. on Monday, Nov. 3, Severe Tropical Storm Tino was at 360 km East of Guiuan, Eastern Samar, moving west-southwestward at 25 km/h with maximum sustained winds of 110 km/h near the center and gustiness of up to 135 km/h.

The state weather bureau said that Tino will move generally westward and may make its initial landfall over the vicinity of the southern portion of Eastern Samar, Leyte, Southern Leyte, or Dinagat Islands by midnight or early morning of Nov. 4. Tino will soon traverse Visayas and northern Palawan before emerging over the West Philippine Sea in the morning or afternoon of Nov. 5.

Tino is expected to intensify continuously and may reach typhoon category within the next 12 hours, per PAGASA. The possibility of it reaching the super typhoon category is not ruled out.

Signal No. 3 up over some areas

PAGASA issued Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 3 over four areas as Tino continues to intensify while it's over the coastal waters of Quezon province.

Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal no. 3 was raised in the southeastern portion of Eastern Samar, particularly in Guiuan, Mercedes, in the Visayas and Dinagat Islands, Siargao, and Bucas Grande Islands in Mindanao.

The weather bureau said winds of greater than 89 km/h up to 117 km/h may be expected in at least 18 hours, and heavy damage is expected for high-risk structures. Widespread disruption of electrical power and communication services is also possible, while air and sea travel may be very risky.

There will be possible flash floods or landslides in these areas, including the rest of Central Visayas, due to heavy to intense winds and at times torrential rains. Minor to extreme threat to life and property is also expected due to strong typhoon-force winds.

The same impact is expected in the rest of Visayas, Caraga, and Sorsogon as rains with gusty winds come.

Tino will also bring strong to gale-force gusts over in Metro Manila, Cagayan Valley, Cordillera Administrative Region, Ilocos Norte, Aurora, Bulacan, Nueva Ecija, Bataan, CALABARZON, MIMAROPA, and Bicol Region.
