Aiko Melendez confirms breakup with Rep. Jay Khonghun

Aiko Melendez and Zambales 1st District Rep. Jay Khonghun have broken up after almost eight years of being together.

The actress-turned-politician said in her Facebook post on Friday, Oct. 3, that after "four months of reflection and careful consideration," she and Khonghun have mutually decided to part ways.

"This decision was not made lightly but comes from a place of respect and understanding of what is best for both of us at this time," she wrote in her statement.

She didn't disclose the cause of their breakup, but clarified that there was no third party involved.

Melendez, who serves as the councilor in the fifth district of Quezon City, shared that they will both focus on public service.

"We remain grateful for the memories we shared and for the support many of you have shown throughout our journey together. Our focus now is to move forward with grace. He, in his continued public service, and I, in mine, always guided by the values of respect, kindness, and dedication to the people we serve," she added.

"We ask for your understanding and privacy as we go through this transition. Thank you for your support and prayers," she concluded.

Melendez confirmed their romance in 2018.

In her previous interview with Ogie Diaz, who is also her manager, Melendez opened up about Khonghun being a father figure to her children, Andrei and Marthena.

“They’re close. He’s the one boyfriend I had my kids found approachable. They go to him when they have problems. Marthena talks to him. He and Andre go out,” she previously said.
