Former NFL player Mark Sanchez arrested hours after getting stabbed
Fox Sports analyst and former NFL player Mark Sanchez was arrested after he was stabbed in an altercation in Indianapolis.
In a statement, the Indianapolis Metro Police Department (IMPD) said Sanchez was apprehended at the hospital for his alleged role in the incident. He faces misdemeanor charges for battery with injury, unlawful entry of a motor vehicle, and public intoxication.
The police added that the former quarterback is still in the hospital and has not been booked into the adult detention center. Fox Sports said he was in stable condition.
"An arrest is merely an accusation, and Sanchez should be considered innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law," the police said.
The Marion County prosecutor's office will make the final charging decision.
The stabbing incident occurred at around 12:30 a.m. between two adult men, police said in an earlier statement in which Sanchez was not named. One man received lacerations while the other sustained injuries.
"Detectives believe this was an isolated incident between the two men and not a random act of violence," IMPD said.
Meanwhile, Fox Sports asked for privacy for Sanchez and his family.
Sanchez, 38, was a quarterback in his 10-year career. He played for the New York Jets, Philadelphia Eagles, Dallas Cowboys, Chicago Bears, and Washington Redskins.
He retired in 2019 and appeared on broadcast networks for football coverage before he became a Fox Sports analyst.
