2-year-old dies after falling from 20th floor of apartment building
A little boy died at 2 years old after falling from the window of an apartment building's 20th floor in the US.
According to a report by NBC News, authorities said that the incident took place at Elizabeth Towers in Newark last weekend.
The toddler was pronounced dead at the scene.
"I’m really sad. My heart is broken," one of their neighbors told the media outlet. "A couple of days (ago), I was just playing right here with him."
"This is really tough. The window is big—it's really big," another neighbor said in an NBC News interview.
He added that the management made sure his place was safe by installing window guards there after letting them know he has a child. "My windows are safe. Before I moved in, I made sure they put up the barricade," he said.
NBC New York, however, noted that they saw other damaged windows in the building. "Some were covered by garbage bags. Other holes in windows were covered by what appeared to look like cardboard and plywood. And one window simply had a gaping hole," Newark's Annie Richardson told News 4.
An investigation on what happened is ongoing.
