An Australian groom is now fighting for his life as the vehicle carrying him crashed and rolled down an embankment while he was on his way to his own wedding.

In the morning of July 30, Wednesday, emergency services responded to Mount View Road in Mount View, Hunter Valley in Australia after receiving reports of a single-vehicle crash, according to a statement from the New South Wales Police Force obtained by PEOPLE Magazine.

"At the scene, officers located a minibus that had rolled down an embankment," the police said. "Two of the occupants are reportedly in serious but stable conditions."

According to the state-run Australian Broadcasting Corporation, the groom is one of two individuals who were seriously injured in the crash.

In a 7News report, the police said the groom is a 56-year-old believed to have suffered limb injuries. Another passenger in his 60s also has head wounds, and it took crews 45 minutes to get him out of the vehicle.

Four others, meanwhile, had injuries "not believed to be serious," the police said.

The vehicle rolled up to seven times, finishing approximately 492 feet from the road.

"All occupants have been transported to hospital for further assessment and treatment," the police said. "A crime scene has been established by officers attached to Hunter Valley Police District."

Steve Laksa, NSW Police district commander, said the weather conditions may have been a factor in the crash.

"It's drizzling, dirt road, unsealed road, could have all been factors in the collision," he said, adding that "there was no information or indication that alcohol was a factor."

Nevertheless, the driver will undergo mandatory blood and alcohol testing.

"They hadn't even got to the wedding yet," Laksa said. "We're very fortunate that the injuries weren't fatal."
