BSKE voter registration period set for August—Comelec
The Commission on Elections will resume voter registration this August, in preparation for the upcoming Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections.
According to Comelec Chairperson George Garcia, Comelec's seven-member panel has approved the holding of the 10-day voter registration activities from Aug. 1 to 10.
"The Commission en banc has approved the resumption of voter registration for the BSKE," he said.
While the final decision on the BSKE remains pending, Garcia stated that the purpose is to ensure voter turnout for the village and youth polls, especially among 15 to 17-year-olds.
“We’re confident we can meet the timeline. And even if the elections don’t happen this year, at least we’ve already registered new voters,” Garcia added.
According to Comelec, the upcoming voter registration will accept various applications, including new registrations, changes or corrections to existing entries, reactivation of records, inclusion of records, and reinstatement of names in the list of voters. Additionally, the Comelec will process updates for the records of Persons with Disabilities, Senior Citizens, and members of Indigenous Peoples and Indigenous Cultural Communities.
Registration is open daily from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., except when declared otherwise by the Comelec.
It also added that its Register Anywhere Program is available in the National Capital Region and select areas in Region III and Region IV-A from Aug. 1-7.
Initially, Comelec had planned to hold voter registration in July. However, this was deferred because Congress decided to extend the terms of barangay and SK officials from three to four years and move the elections to the first Monday of November 2026.
This proposed bill, which will also postpone the next BSKE from Dec. 1 to November 2026, is currently awaiting President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.'s signature to become law.
