Threads introduces ‘ghost posts’ that disappear after 24 hours

Meta's Threads platform, a rival of X, introduced "ghost posts," a new feature that automatically vanishes a post after a day, similar to the popular Stories feature on Facebook and Instagram.

According to a blog post by Meta, ghost posts encourage the app’s users to “share unfiltered thoughts and fresh takes without the pressure of permanence or polish.”

“Here today and gone tomorrow, you can feel confident trying new things and posting spontaneous thoughts,” the tech company added.

Ghost posts show up on your feed in a dotted chat balloon. When you like the post, a ghost emoji animation will show up before it becomes a heart. Also at the bottom is a ghost post icon that shows you how many hours are left before the thread is archived.

To create a ghost post, users can toggle the ghost icon in the composer. Replies are also directed to the user's messaging inbox, and only the poster can view who liked or replied.

Instead of showing replies on your feed, replies to ghost posts are sent directly to your inbox, so only you can see them.

This feature appears not to be available yet for all users in the Philippines, but Filipino users can still see the disappearing posts.

Threads recently added text attachments that support up to 10,000 characters and spoiler-hiding options for both media and text.

Threads was introduced by Meta in July 2023 as a text-based platform tightly integrated with Instagram, allowing users to sign up using Instagram’s credentials.
