Kim Kardashian criticized by animal rights' group after gifting all four kids with their own puppy
Kim Kardashian is being called out by the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals after she gave all four of her children their own puppy as a Christmas gift.
On her Instagram stories, the media personality and socialite posted a picture of four Pomeranian puppies sitting on her couch, two with dark fur, one with a cream coat, and one with sable fur.
"Each kid got a puppy," she captioned the picture, referring to her children whom she shares with ex-husband Kanye West: North, 12, Saint, 10, Chicago, 7, and Psalm, 6.
Following her post, PETA founder Ingrid Newkirk took issue with Kim's decision, saying it sends the wrong message about pet ownership.
"Puppies are not plushies, and it’s a damn shame that Kim missed the chance to be a spokesperson for shelter pups and instead is being rightly slammed on social media for that," she said in a statement sent to PEOPLE.
She went on to implore Kim as well as her sister Khloé Kardashian—who also gave a dog to her family for Christmas—to "call PETA or a local shelter the next time" they want to bring another dog into their household.
"[They can] try to make some amends now by sending their kids to volunteer at a local shelter or paying for a local shelter adopt-a-thon or at least one spay day to help stop the growing homeless puppy crisis," Newkirk said.
Kim has yet to respond to the criticisms.
The Kardashian family has had a long history with pets, often sharing glimpses of their dogs and other animals on social media.
Kim previously adopted two other Pomeranians back in 2019. They also have a bearded dragon that they named Speed.
