Ascending soon? TikTok thinks the Rapture might happen this week
Have you heard about the Rapture? Well, TikTok says it's coming soon.
For ages, people have been predicting when the world would come to an end. You may remember the grand panic of Dec. 21, 2012, which, to a lot of people's disappointment, turned out to be just another Friday. It got so huge that it had a viral hoax documentary, talking about ties of Nostradamus and Psy's Gangnam Style to the supposed Dec. 21 apocalypse.
But, if you’ve spent any time on the app lately, you've probably stumbled upon #RaptureTok, a corner of the internet where users are sharing what they would do during the Rapture, which they claim is happening on Sept. 23, 2025.
To keep you in the loop, Rapture is a belief that both living and dead faithful believers will ascend into heaven to meet Jesus Christ at the Second Coming, per Britannica dictionary.
Apparently, the date comes from a South African pastor Joshua Mhlakela, who, after a vision, saw Jesus returning on Rosh Hashanah.
“The Rapture is upon us, whether you are ready or not,” Mhlakela said. “I saw Jesus sitting on his throne, and I could hear him very loud and clear saying, ‘I am coming soon.’” He added that Jesus will return "on the 23rd and 24th of September 2025."
It's a phenomenon that has everyone on TikTok preparing for their divine exit. Some are sharing tips on how to prepare, including repenting of sins and getting baptized.
Another user gave a tip on how to give a "subtle hint" to people you will leave behind in case you get Raptured.
Meanwhile, one advised to unlock their phones to "help people explain God's word and explain what is happening."
@kingdomwealth_christina I literally just thought of this today! I still have to put together letters for people. I rounded up all of the Bibles in my house and any book that helps explain scripture. Jesus is going to come and get his bride very very soon! ##pretrib##Raptureready##Rapture2025##jesussaves ♬ original sound - Kingdom Wealth | Christina
This TikTok user, however, posted her "last video" ahead of the supposed Rapture, while another said that she had given away all of her earthly possessions, like her car.
While some are preparing for their exit, others on the internet are keeping things light. One user on X wrote, "People are donating assets [because] of the Rapture thing...guys?? Can I have a Ford Raptor[?]"
Another X user noted that if enough people get Raptured, rent might finally become affordable.
One more mused that we should all just pretend like the Rapture happened and watch the chaos unfold.
"[W]e should all collectively pretend like we witnessed the Rapture on Tuesday & make them think they got left behind," another X user posted.
And for this TikTok user, he said he would carry his dog and bring it with him to heaven just in case.
