Woman receives human body parts in mail instead of medicines she ordered

A woman who was expecting to receive her order for medicines and other medical supplies got a box of human arms and fingers instead.

According to a report by NBC News, officials confirmed that the severed body parts meant for "surgical training" were sent to the wrong recipient in Kentucky.

"Yes, true story," Christian County Coroner Scott Daniel said in a statement sent to the media outlet. "The box was intended to be delivered for surgical training, but was somehow delivered to her front porch."

Daniel told PEOPLE Magazine that the two arms and four fingers were packed with ice, and that nothing in the packaging indicated what it actually contained. They were sent not via regular mail but through a private courier.

"I think her box and that box [of body parts] had come into the Nashville airport. The courier that was supposed to have picked up the body parts picked up her meds, and then the second courier that was supposed to get the body parts picked up [the women’s box]. It was just a reversed delivery," he told the media publication, noting that the human remains "were not supposed to leave Nashville."

Authorities took care of the matter, with Daniel letting the box stay in their morgue until it was retrieved by the courier the following morning.

The woman received what she really ordered on the same day, too.

Daniel said in the same interview with PEOPLE Magazine that the woman thought it was a prank or Halloween decorations because the incident happened two days before the spooky night.

"When I walked in, she was on the phone with the company that was supposed to have delivered her medical equipment. She wasn't just distraught, but she was obviously surprised," he recalled.
