Heads up, commuters: You can enjoy free MRT, LRT rides until May 3

Hardworking employees, here's a much-needed reward for you all: free train rides.

In celebration of Labor Day, workers may take the Light Rail Transit 1 and 2, and Metro Rail Transit 3 without paying for tickets from April 30 to May 3.

The Department of Transportation implemented the free rides in accordance with President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr.'s April 29 announcement.

"Inutos ko na para magbigay ng ating kaunting parangal para sa ating manggagawa," Marcos said in a video message. "Sa Labor Day celebration ay maging libre ang sakay sa MRT-3, LRT-1 at 2."

"Ito ay bilang kaunting pagkilala sa sakripisyo at ang kontribusyon ng ating mga manggagawa hindi lamang sa ating ekonomiya kundi sa ating lipunan," he added.

The DOTr on April 30 shared photos of the first day of free train rides. Throngs of commuters can be seen lining up at the stations and filling the trains.

Labor Day, celebrated annually on May 1, is a regular holiday that honors the Filipino workforce.
