Uwan intensifies into super typhoon
Uwan (international name: Fung Wong) has now intensified into a super typhoon, with the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration raising TCWS No. 5 in four areas in Luzon.
According to the weather bureau's 8 a.m. bulletin, the center of the eye of ST Uwan was estimated at 12km northeast of Virac, Catanduanes as of 7 a.m. It's expected to make landfall over Aurora on Nov. 9 evening or early Monday morning.
The super typhoon has maximum sustained winds of 185km/h near the center, gustiness of 230km/h, and a central pressure of 935hPa.
Uwan is also moving northwestward at 25km/h over the next 24 hours until it exits the Philippine Area of Responsibility by Nov. 11 before turning northeastward.
Corresponding wind signals have also been raised in parts of the country.
