BSKE voter registration to resume on Oct. 20
The voter registration for the barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections will resume this month.
According to the Commission on Elections, registration will take place from Oct. 20 to May 18, 2026.
A separate registration period will be held for the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao from May 1 to 18, 2026.
Comelec Chairman George Garcia explained that the agency opted to schedule the BARMM registration after the region's first parliamentary election in March. He noted that simultaneous registration could confuse BARMM voters, potentially leading them to believe the activity was for the parliamentary polls.
The Comelec is expecting around 1.4 million registrants.
In August, President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. signed a new law postponing the upcoming BSKE.
The polls, initially scheduled for Dec. 1, will now be held on the first Monday of November 2026, and every four years thereafter.
The new law, known as Republic Act No. 12232, sets the term of office for all elected barangay and SK officials to four years, from the current three years under the Local Government Code of 1991.
It also says that no elective barangay official will serve for more than three consecutive terms or up to 12 years in the same position. No elective SK official, on the other hand, will serve for more than one term in the same position.
