British Airways plane loses wheel after takeoff
A British Airways plane lost a wheel shortly after taking off from Las Vegas.
In the video shared by BBC, the Airbus A350-1000 is seen departing from Harry Reid International Airport on Monday, Jan. 25, when its right rear wheel suddenly detached and fell to the ground just seconds after the plane retracted its gears mid-flight.
“Safety and security underpin everything we do, and we’re supporting the authorities with their investigations,” the airline said in a statement sent to the media.
The airport confirmed it was aware of the incident involving a flight bound for London, adding that the aircraft landed safely without further issues.
According to global flight tracking service Flightradar 24, the plane spent nine hours and 17 minutes in the air before making it safely to Heathrow Airport in London.
Authorities said no injuries or damage were reported on the ground and in flight, and that the National Transportation Safety Board was notified of the incident. The fallen tire was also retrieved from the airfield.
