Philippine Airlines to allow small dogs on select domestic flights

Sometimes, the biggest hurdle to a getaway is leaving your furry friend behind. But here's the good news: Philippine Airlines has launched a new program allowing small dogs to ride with you on select flights.

Dubbed as "FurPAL," the program lets passengers bring small dogs in the cabin on select domestic flights for P2,500 one-way base fares, according to an advisory on their website.

For now, this is only eligible for flights to and from Tagbilaran, Caticlan, and Siargao.

"Only small dogs are accepted, regardless of breed. No cats or other animals are permitted at this time," PAL stated. "Dogs must be at least 12 weeks old, fully weaned, and able to stand, turn, and lie down comfortably inside their carrier. Only small dogs weighing 10 kilograms (22 pounds) or less—including the carrier—are allowed."

Only one dog per passenger may be allowed, with a limit of three small dogs for aircraft A321 CEO and A320, and two for Q400.

Their carrier must be soft-sided, fully enclosed, and leak-proof with a solid base, have at least two ventilation panels, close securely with zippers, Velcro, or similar, have a maximum size of 17 inches by 11 inches by 9.5 inches, and be free from strong odors, damage, or contamination.

PAL also noted that pets must remain under the seat in front of you inside a compliant carrier. Purchasing a separate seat for your fur baby is not allowed.

In cases where another passenger on board is allergic to pets, the airline assures that the number of pets is limited, and they are seated by the window to minimize exposure.

To book the program on your eligible flight, you must click "FurPAL" on the Travel Boost page to include your pet in your booking. Afterwards, you must confirm your details and get ready for your flight with FurPAL.

Make sure to bring the necessary travel documents for your pet upon check-in. These include the FurPAL Declaration, Release, and Waiver Form, Veterinary Health Certificate, Anti-Rabies Vaccination Certificate, and Shipping Permit issued by the Bureau of Animal Industry.

You can access the waiver through this link.

Previously, only service dogs were qualified to be accepted inside the cabin as long as they were accompanied by an individual with disability on board the flights. Other pets are accepted as checked-in baggage.
