Drivers involved in viral Cavite road rage incident reach settlement
The drivers of the pickup truck and public bus involved in a road rage incident in Silang, Cavite have reached a settlement, according to the Philippine National Police.
"Ayon sa hepe ng Silang, na-settle naman po kinabukasan ang kaso at nag-execute po ng affidavit of no interest to file criminal charges yung driver ng bus," PNP spokesperson Police Brigadier General Randulf Tuaño said in a media briefing, per GMA News.
The pickup driver, who is the wife of the man seen roughing up the elderly bus driver, agreed to shoulder the latter's medical treatment costs, as well as moral damages, amounting to P40,000. She will also pay for the repair of the damage on the bus, which will cost P18,000.
The incident began when the pickup turned a corner and supposedly sideswiped the bus. Reacting to it, the bus driver allegedly began angrily insulting the woman, which angered her husband. This led to the road rage episode, which was caught in a now-viral video, where the husband of the pickup driver can be seen hitting the bus driver repeatedly.
On Monday, Oct. 20, the Land Transportation Office put a 90-day suspension on the driver's license of the pickup truck's registered owner—the husband—and placed the truck under alarm, preventing any transactions involving the vehicle. He was also served a show cause order, which requires him to appear at LTO's Intelligence Investigation Division on Friday, Oct. 24, to surrender his license.
