Want to conduct your science research in Taiwan? Here's how
Are you interested to do your science research project in Taiwan? It's now possible as application for the 2026 MECO-TECO Sandwich Scholarship Program is now open!
This is made possible by the cooperation of the Department of Science and Technology and the National Science and Technology Council of Taiwan.
The MECO-TECO SSP is open to Master’s and PhD students interested in conducting research at a Taiwan university or research institution.
The priority research areas include natural sciences, life sciences, engineering, and chemistry. Applicants would have to partner up with a Taiwanese professor who will serve as their host/adviser with an existing project funded by the NSTC or with Principal Investigators already involved in the MECO-TECO Joint Research Program. This is to ensure financial support for the duration of the research.
NSTC will grant a stipend of NT$25,000 (~P46,940) per month for Master's students and NT$35,000 per month for Doctorate students. DOST, meanwhile, will grant relocation assistance of Php 30,000, one round-trip economy airfare, and health and accident insurance.
Applicants are required to submit hard copies (with wet signature) of the following documents compiled into a long brown envelope:
- Accomplished MECO-TECO SSP Application (form attached);
- Proposed Host Institution and Adviser (Acceptance Letter);
- CV of Filipino and Taiwanese Host Professors;
- Certified Copy of Transcript of Records;
- Endorsement from two (2) Former Professors;
- Endorsement from Project Leader (for ASTHRDP/ERDT/STRAND scholars);
- If employed, recommendation from Head of the Agency; and
- Two (2) recent 2x2 ID pictures
These documents should be labeled with one's full name and the subject ‘2026 MECO-TECO SSP Application’, and addressed to the International Technology Cooperation Unit.
Applicants must also fill out the Google Form using this link. All letters should be addressed to: LEAH J. BUENDIA, Ph.D, DOST Undersecretary for Research and Development.
Applicants may also communicate directly with the International Technology Cooperation Unit (ITCU) or through email at dostssp.mecoteco@gmail.com.
All applications must be submitted on or before April 13. The program must start in September 2026 with a minimum duration of six months. Qualified applicants will be notified by July 2026.
