DOTr postpones launch of student Beep card to Sept. 20
The Department of Transportation has postponed the launch of student Beep cards to Sept. 20.
"Kailangan lang po naming mag-recalibrate ng system based sa aming initial assessment, para masigurong walang magiging problema sa pag-aapply ng mga estudyante para sa kanilang white beep cards," the DOTr wrote on its statement on Sept. 12.
"We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience, and we assure everyone that we are working hard to resolve these system issues within the month," it added.
In a separate post on Sept. 13, the agency announced the student Beep cards will be launched on Saturday, Sept. 20, instead of the original launch date of Sept. 15.
"Simula September 20, on-the-spot na ang printing ng student beep cards, pati na ng white beep cards para sa senior citizens at persons with disabilities," they wrote, adding that the waiting time for printing of cards will be reduced to minutes from the previous seven to 10 days.
When it's launched, students may avail of the special card by presenting a valid ID or a copy of proof of enrollment or registration for the current academic year, signing an acknowledgement form, and paying a one-time fee of P30. Note that only the student may apply for the special beep card; proxies or representatives are not allowed. This special card can be used in LRT-1, LRT-2, and MRT-3.
In the meantime, students may opt for single journey tickets to avail the 50% discount. Meanwhile, senior citizens and PWDS may use their existing white Beep cards to avail of the 50% discount.
