GUIDE: Can't find a parking spot? Here's how you can secure one in advance
With parking being a long-time problem in and around Metro Manila, every well-planned solution is welcome.
One such answer to many motorists' parking predicaments is a new app whose GPS-based Smart Parking System allows drivers to find, reserve, and pay for a parking spot even before they get on the road.
LuvPark, founded by Charles Dumancas and Leeroy Shoko, provides users with real-time updates on parking availability, both for motor vehicles and motorcycles.
The service is still in its early stages. For now, it's available in 22 locations in Metro Manila like Quezon City, Ortigas, Pasig, Mandaluyong, and Makati. LuvPark is also operational in some parking facilities in Cavite, Rizal, Bulacan, and Bacolod.
Once registered in the app, users can find available parking near their location or search for another location. When a parking site is chosen, the app will show the site's open hours, the number of slots still available, parking rates, whether valet parking is offered, and even the type of floor the lot uses. Users not familiar with the area can also get directions.
Booking can be done in advance, and can also be cancelled. However, the option for advanced booking is not available if users are more than 20 km away from their selected parking area.
While payment can be done onsite, the platform also offers cashless payments via credit and debit, GCash, and Maya. Discounts for senior citizens and PWDs are already integrated into the system.
Here's how to use it:
1. Download the LuvPark app on Google Play or App Store.
2. Reserve a slot in an operational parking lot near your destination. Remember, you need to be within 20 km of the facility before you can do this.
3. Enter your plate number and pick a payment method.
4. Book the slot.
5. When you get to the facility, a LuvPark attendant will guide you to your parking spot.
The app is expected to be formally launched early next year, with more participating parking facilities.
