Barangay captain shot dead during livestream, P2 million bounty raised for killer
A barangay captain was shot dead while livestreaming on Facebook in Digos City, Davao del Sur.
In a deleted Facebook video, a villager can be seen conversing with Barangay Trese de Mayo Captain Oscar "Dodong" Bucol Jr. in his residence as he surrendered a purse containing an identification card.
In just a few minutes, as Bucol was flashing the ID on the camera, a gunshot was heard, followed by a painful scream from the captain.
A few more gunshots were later heard, leading the residents of the compound to flee.
Bucol can briefly be seen on camera, bleeding and touching his wounded back. The livestream was also able to capture the captain's final moments.
On Wednesday, Nov. 26, authorities announced a P2 million bounty for information on the gunmen and masterminds behind the killing.
"We hope that those responsible will be arrested to stop this. Who will be next? We don't want a fearful Davao del Sur," Gov. Yvonne Cagas said in a press conference, according to the Philippine News Agency.
The bounty includes P1 million from Vice President Sara Duterte and another million from the provincial government.
According to News5, Bucol had adversaries on social media and was already receiving death threats prior to his murder.
Police Regional Office-11 director Brig. Gen. Leon Victor Rosete said in a media briefing that Digos Police Chief Lt. Col. Peter Glenn Ipong, who was mentioned in Bucol's previous broadcasts, has been relieved from his position to ensure an impartial investigation. Per the PNA report, Ipong and 21 intelligence personnel of the Digos City Police Station will undergo a paraffin test.
A special investigation task group is currently investigating the killing.
