Carlos Yulo wins vault gold at World Championships
Carlos Yulo has won his second global vaulting title!
At the 53rd FIG Artistic World Gymnastics Championships in Jakarta, Indonesia, Yulo on Saturday secured the vault title with a winning two-vault average of 14.866. He edged out Armenia's Artur Davtyan (14.833) and finished ahead of bronze medalist Nazar Chepurnyi of Ukraine (14.483).
The 25-year-old gymnast's opening vault—a front handspring, double pike front half out—was flawless: he stuck the landing perfectly, earning a 0.100 bonus and a 9.500 execution score for 15.200.
Though he had a slight shuffle on his second vault (a front handspring, front layout with two-and-a-half twists), which scored 14.533, his first score sealed the gold.
This is the Golden Boy's second world title on the apparatus and his third World crown overall. His previous gold medals came in the men's vault in 2021 and the floor exercise in 2019.
The newest gold follows his bronze medal in the floor exercise last Friday.
