'Alice Guo of Metro Manila': Chinese national allegedly posing as Filipino arrested at NAIA
A Chinese national was arrested for allegedly using a fraudulent Filipino identity to run a business in Metro Manila.
On July 13, officials of the Bureau of Immigration and the National Bureau of Immigration arrested Wang Xiujun, 43, at Ninoy Aquino International Airport Terminal 3.
Wang was on board an AirAsia flight from Kuala Lumpur and was immediately arrested by BI border control and intelligence unit officers.
BI Commissioner Joel Anthony Viado said in a statement said he ordered the monitoring of Wang's travels upon receiving a tip from the NBI regarding her "suspicious identity."
According to BI's news release, Wang was said to have been posing as Cassia Palma Poliquit and was involved in businesses selling and distributing electric vehicles in Metro Manila.
The agency said that she holds a Philippine passport and a birth certificate acquired via late registration, despite being a Chinese national holding an investor’s visa.
A NBI dactyloscopy cross-examination also showed that Wang and Poliquit have the exact fingerprint records, further confirming that they are the same person.
Wang was placed in the BI warden’s facility, with pending deportation proceedings.
Her alleged use of a Filipino identity led the BI to draw comparisons to the case of the dismissed Bamban mayor Alice Guo, who is facing charges about illegal operations of Philippine Offshore Gaming Operations, tax evasion, and human trafficking, among others.
Guo's true identity and citizenship became the subject of controversy as she claimed that she's Filipino and denied having ties to POGOs in her bailiwick and being a Chinese spy.
In June 2024, the NBI confirmed that Alice Guo and a Chinese national named Guo Hua Ping bear the same fingerprint. In June of this year, a Manila court ruled that Guo is Chinese, therefore erasing her term as the mayor of Bamban, Tarlac.
