King Charles opens Ayrshire estate for luxury weddings

If you've ever dreamed of your own royal wedding, soon you can do so; King Charles III will open his Ayrshire estate to host luxury weddings.

According to a BBC report, the $8.7 million (~P514 million) Dumfries House in East Ayrshire, Scotland, will be built with a public events place positioned as a "go-to venue for high-end, luxury weddings and private events" both nationally and internationally. It will be named King's Hall, in honor of the monarch.

The new space will be built using locally sourced materials and designed to complement the 300-year-old estate. It can accommodate up to 200 guests. It is expected to open in July 2027.

"We've used a local quarry to mine the stone and utilised the same building techniques as those used to build Dumfries House 300 years ago, while also incorporating newer techniques and elements that we need to include to meet today's building standards," said Gordon Neil, executive director of the King's Foundation.

It added that the new space will help "meet increasing demand for five-star events and bring more employment and education opportunities to the area," forming "a seamless extension to the historic Robert Adam-designed Dumfries House," per People report.

The proceeds will support heritage conservation, estate improvements, and the foundation’s commitment to education and community programming.

Dumfries House was bought by King Charles' consortium in 2007. It was built between 1754 and 1759 for William Dalrymple, 5th Earl of Dumfries. It currently serves as the headquarters of The King's Foundation.

The estate offers free public access to its walled garden, arboretum, and playground. For those looking to stay overnight, they offer a range of guest rooms and self-catering cottages, complemented by an on-site café and restaurant.
