Asia's first Portal set to launch in BGC on Jan. 21
Filipinos can now catch a real-time glimpse of the other side of the world through Asia’s first Portal in Bonifacio Global City.
The tech art installation will be up along Fifth Avenue in BGC on Jan. 21 at 6 p.m. When it opens, the Manila Portal will feature a 24/7 livestream connecting it to Portals in Vilnius, Lithuania; Lublin, Poland; Dublin, Ireland; Philadelphia, United States; and Ipswich, United Kingdom.
The Manila Portal will be Asia's first and sixth worldwide. It will also be installed in other countries, including Brazil.
“The opening of our first Portal in Asia is a powerful and exciting moment for us. Bringing the Portal to BGC in Manila—a city known for genuine warmth and deep sense of human connection—expands our vision of a world connected not by borders, but by direct human encounter. We cannot wait to welcome Filipinos into this shared global experience," Benediktas Gylys, founder of Portals Organization, said in the statement.
For his part, BGC's Chief Operating Officer, Enrique B. Manuel Jr., said that the move supports their aim to create spaces for connection, while also "proudly sharing the vibrancy and richness of Filipino culture with the world.”
Created in 2021, Portals.org aims to foster connections for people across the world through Portals. Based in Vilnius and Berlin, the organization works with cities, governments, and partners to build a global network that connects people beyond borders and prejudices.
