'The Conjuring' prequel film in the works
There's still much to discover about paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren as a prequel film to The Conjuring is in the works.
According to a report by Variety, Warner Bros. and New Line have greenlit a prequel film, with Rodrigue Huart eyed to direct it.
The prequel film is expected to revisit the couple's early years in paranormal investigation. More details about the plot and the cast members have yet to be revealed, including whether Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson will reprise their roles as Ed and Lorraine Warren.
Richard Naing and Ian Goldberg, who also helmed the The Nun II (2023) and the recent film The Conjuring: Last Rites, are set to write the prequel offering, but Variety noted that "no deals have closed at this time."
Other than the prequel, Conjuring is also in talks to be adapted into a television series at HBO, which will follow the stories from the feature films. Plot details have yet to be unveiled.
The Conjuring: Last Rites is the ninth entry in the Conjuring universe. It was directed by Michael Chaves and produced by franchise architects James Wan and Peter Safran.
Aside from Farmiga and Wilson, also included in the cast were Mia Tomlinson and Ben Hardy, who portray Ed and Lorraine’s daughter Judy Warren and her boyfriend, Tony Spera, as well as Steve Coulter, Rebecca Calder, Elliot Cowan, Kíla Lord Cassidy, Beau Gadsdon, John Brotherton, and Shannon Kook.
