Do Carmina Villaroel and Zoren Legaspi meddle in their kids' love lives? Cassy and Mavy answer
Twins Cassy and Mavy Legaspi, 24, discussed one of the controversial rumors about their parents, actors Carmina Villaroel and Zoren Legaspi.
"Nakikialam ba sila sa love life [ninyo]?" the two were asked on Fast Talk with Boy Abunda.
"No," Cassy replied. "Unless we ask for advice, that's when they share a bit. At the end of the day, they [tell us], 'It's your life. It's your decision. But if you need advice, we're just here.'"
Mavy further clarified the issue: "I think that's the biggest misconception, na strict sila sa pag-ibig. [But] they just let us love. For example, with Ashley [Ortega] and I now, nagulat na lang sila. It was like that with my past [relationships]. It was always very lenient."
Early this year, Ashley confirmed her relationship with Mavy during a Feb. 10 guesting on Fast Talk with Boy Abunda.
Prior to this relationship, Mavy was linked to fellow actress Kyline Alcantara, with whom he starred in the TV series I Left My Heart in Sorsogon. The couple was together from 2021 to 2023, but their relationship started going sour mid-2023. Later that year, Villaroel made several cryptic posts on X, which confused social media users.
She wrote, addressing her kids, "People can destroy your image, damage your personality, create rumors about you but they can never take away your good deeds. Because no matter how they describe you, you will always be admired by those who know you best."
Eagle-eyed fans noticed a post by Alcantara on the same day, saying simply, "I knew it."
Both Villaroel and Alcantara continued to make puzzling posts over the next few weeks, leading netizens to theorize that Villaroel was interfering in Mavy's love life.
"There was drama in public, but in our household, there was peace," Mavy told Abunda. "The truth kept us at peace. There was really no sermon [from my parents] because kilala nila ako. Whatever people were saying, hindi talaga siya totoo. I take pride in that."
The controversy surrounding his previous relationship left Mavy with an important life lesson.
"It taught me to be more resilient and stronger. And it brought me closer to God, which I'm very grateful for. Everything now, I leave it in His hands. I've become more God-fearing," he told Abunda.
Cassy expressed total support for her twin.
"Hindi lang niya alam, I was just there the whole time. Nagho-hover lang ako," she told Abunda. "We don't have to verbalize it. We know we have each other's support. I trust my brother. He's a very, very smart guy; very, very genuine person. So I know that everything that's happened to him, happened for a reason. It's only to make him a stronger person."
This came a year after Carmina addressed allegations that she tends to meddle in her children's love lives.
“Kung talagang pakialamera ako, wala sila sa showbiz ngayon. I’ve been saying that, hindi ako pakialamera. I’m very supportive [of] my kids. But I’m just being a mother. What does it mean? Mapagmahal akong ina, I care for them, I worry about them. Mahal ko sila, gagawin ko ang lahat para sa kanila," she told the press in October 2024.
