Police rule K-drama star Nana acted in self-defense during home robbery
The police ruled that South Korean actress-singer Nana acted in self-defense when she injured an armed robber in her home.
K-media outlet Soompi reported that the Guri Police Station said on Saturday, Nov. 22, that they will charge the man in his thirties, referred to as "A," with aggravated robbery and assault.
“A" is accused of breaking into Nana’s home around 6 a.m. KST on Nov. 15 with a weapon, threatening and injuring both Nana and her mother while demanding money. He reportedly used a ladder to access the balcony and entered through an unlocked door, and allegedly strangled and injured Nana’s mother upon finding her inside.
Nana woke up from her mother's screams and proceeded to stop the armed intruder. A physical fight broke out, where "A" sustained a laceration on his chin with the weapon he brought to the actress' home.
The actress and her mother were able to subdue the robber by seizing his arm. They immediately contacted the police.
"The victims suffered tangible harm, and our investigation found that they did not inflict serious injury while defending themselves," the police explained.
“Looking at the situation overall, we determined that the victims’ actions constituted self-defense, so no charges were filed [against them],” they continued.
Per the police, "A" did not seem to specifically target Nana’s home because it belonged to a celebrity, saying he didn't know a celebrity lived in the house when he broke in. Meanwhile, both Nana and her mother said they had never met "A" before.
Last week, Nana’s agency, SUBLIME, revealed in an official statement, “As a result of the robber’s physical assault, Nana’s mother lost consciousness due to serious injury, and Nana also sustained physical injury while trying to escape danger. At present, both are in need of medical treatment and complete rest.”
Nana debuted in 2009 as a member of After School before going into acting, playing leading roles in TV series and films, including Mask Girl, My Man is Cupid, Oh My Ladylord, Confession, Omniscient Reader: The Prophecy, Kill It, and Justice.
