Behind the annual list of most beautiful and handsome faces in the world
Entering its 36th year, the Annual Independent Critics List of the 100 Most Beautiful Faces of the Year is the brainchild of British-American writer TC Candler. He began his career creating movie reviews, conducting celebrity interviews, and writing opinionated columns.
He then put together the Independent Critics Lists, which annually rank the world's most attractive people. According to Candler, the lists are not popularity contests, though nominees can only get into the list if they are celebrities with at least 10,000 followers on social media.
Normally, the search for each year's most beautiful and most handsome faces begins every January and concludes in December. Candler conducts public voting through Patreon, where members can place nominations and vote.
Depending on the length of their Patreon membership, users get to nominate one to two individuals per month from January to November. Voting takes place in December; members get to cast up to 10 votes.
Ultimately, rather than dictate, the lists seek to contribute to how the public sees modern beauty.
