Nina Dobrev and Shaun White end engagement, break up after five years—report
Vampire Diaries star Nina Dobrev and former professional snowboarder Shaun White have reportedly called off their engagement and put an end to their relationship.
A source close to the pair told PEOPLE that their break-up after being together for five years "was a mutual decision," but "wasn’t an easy one."
"It was made with love and a deep respect for one another," they added.
Both Dobrev and White have yet to publicly confirm their split.
Rumors that the couple were having trouble in paradise started when Dobrev was spotted walking the red carpet of the Eternity premiere at the 2025 Toronto International Film Festival without her five-carat diamond engagement ring.
She also raised eyebrows when she recently posted a TikTok video where she lip-synced to an audio about other women trying to "fix" a man.
"What's your advice for women trying to fix their man? Listen, Bob the Builder, he's got 10 other women trying to fix him too, and you all look like a damn construction crew," Dobrev mouthed along to the track.
Eagle-eyed fans also noticed that she had unpinned their engagement post from the top of her Instagram page, which has been there since October 2024. However, the post remains published as of writing.
According to a report by Vogue, White planned different proposals for the actress. Knowing Dobrev as “an extremely organized person,” he wanted to make sure to give a big surprise.
After a series of postponed proposals, White made sure that he was going to officially pop the question in late October, by inviting her to a fake intimate CFDA/Vogue dinner with Anna Wintour.
“He made the invite look so legitimate,” Dobrev told Vogue.
When she arrived at the Golden Swan in New York City, the only people present were the photographer and Shaun, who was standing under the arch of white roses.
“He said all the right things," Dobrev recalled to Vogue.
The two started dating in 2019, and went Instagram official in May 2020. They first met at an event organized by motivational speaker Tony Robbins.
Dobrev is known for her roles in Vampire Diaries, The Out-Laws, Love Hard, and Reunion. White, meanwhile, is a five-time Olympian and a three-time Olympic gold medalist in half-pipe snowboarding.
