OPM singer Dionela pulled a plot twist during the first night of his The Grace Manila show when he proposed to his longtime girlfriend, Meizy Joaquin Mendoza.

During the Nov. 21 concert, Dionela and Meizy shared a heartfelt moment on stage, where the singer asked her to sing her part in the song Bahaghari.

He then looked back on the struggles they went through together, especially during the early days of his music career.

“Sinamahan mo ako mula umpisa hanggang sa dulo, mahal. Naalala ko pa noong kasama kita noong binenta ko 'yung huling gitara ko at gusto ko nang mag-quit, tapos umiiyak tayong dalawa noon. Tapos nandito na tayo ngayon sa New Frontier Theater. Ang daming tao,” he said in a video posted by EMI Records.

“Sinamahan mo ako mula umpisa hanggang ngayon; gusto sana kitang yayaing samahan mo ako habang buhay,” he added.

The Marilag singer then went down on one knee and asked, “Meizy Joaquin Mendoza, will you marry me?” Meizy responded with a tearful nod.

“Everybody, she said ‘yes!’” Dionela announced.

In March, Dionela shared the meaning behind the lyric "Loving you saved me" from his hit song, Marilag, which was inspired by his girlfriend of five years, who saved him with mental health struggles in 2022 when he lost his passion for music.

"My girl Meizy took care of me and helped me reignite my fire, shaping who I am today. Marilag is not just a song—it’s my testimony," he wrote in a Facebook post

Dionela is known for his songs Marilag, Sining, Bahaghari, Musika, and Oksihina.

The artist held his The Grace world tour at the New Frontier Theater on Nov. 21 and 22. He previously said that the profits from the show would be donated to typhoon victims.
