Stanley Tucci is 'sad' he won't see wife Felicity Blunt 'get old' because of 21-year age gap
Stanley Tucci got candid about his 21-year age difference with his wife, Felicity Blunt, 44.
While he acknowledged he isn't generally bothered by the age gap, Tucci shared a bittersweet regret in an interview with The Times of London.
“I am sad that I won’t see her get old and that I won’t be able to look after her if she needs looking after,” Tucci said. “I think there’s something really beautiful about people aging together. And unless there’s some miracle, that can’t happen.”
Tucci met Blunt—the sister of his The Devil Wears Prada co-star, Emily Blunt—at the film's premiere in 2006. However, the couple didn't reconnect until four years later, when they were reintroduced at Emily's wedding to actor John Krasinski in 2010.
Tucci and Blunt tied the knot in 2012 and went on to welcome a son, Matteo (in 2015), and a daughter, Emilia (in 2018).
While Blunt was pregnant with Emilia, Tucci learned he had been diagnosed with throat cancer. He admitted the timing was especially challenging for his family.
“It was awful to go through it after my wife had died and friends had died, but I am happier than I was before," he said. (His first wife, Kate Tucci, with whom he shared three children, passed away from breast cancer in 2009.)
"The only thing I’m not happy about is how hard it was for Felicity, who was giving birth while I was getting treatment. And, of course, it was hard for the kids,” he said.
Now in remission for several years, the actor says the experience has given him a renewed perspective and greater clarity.
“I’m more clear-headed than I was before. I have a stronger sense of self,” he stated. “In 15 years, I’ll be 80 years old, and there’s a lot of stuff that I want to do before then.”
Since his recovery, Tucci has made a point of exercising five or six times a week to maintain his health.
“I’m in much better shape than I was before I got sick. Exercise just improves everything. It makes it possible to do other things, including eating and drinking wine,” he quipped.
Tucci is currently filming the sequel to The Devil Wears Prada. He was recently sighted in the front row of Dolce & Gabbana's Milan Fashion Week show on Saturday with Meryl Streep, in character, shooting scenes for the film.
Also this year, his new show, Tucci in Italy, premiered. In this series, Tucci travels through Italy, visiting each region to explore their unique cultures, cuisine, and history. The new show is a follow-up to his critically acclaimed series, Stanley Tucci: Searching for Italy, which aired on CNN from 2021 to 2022.
