Actor Luke Jickain, the inspiration behind 'Bar Boys' character, passes the 2025 Bar Exam
Model-actor Luke Jickain is now a lawyer!
Jickain is among the 5,594 successful examinees of the 2025 Bar exams, the results of which were released by the Supreme Court on Wednesday, Jan. 7. This year's passing rate stood at nearly 49%, with 11,420 total hopefuls taking the licensure test.
He broke the news on social media, posting his graduation photo and a screenshot of his name on the list.
Likewise, his achievement was celebrated by the team behind Bar Boys, a 2017 comedy-drama movie about a law school barkada.
"Congratulations to former model and actor, now lawyer, Luke Jickain," they wrote. "In 2017, he was the inspiration for the character Joshua Zuñiga in Bar Boys. He eventually returned to law school, became the basis for the character in Bar Boys: After School, and passed the Bar on his very first take."
A true "full-circle" moment, Jickain passed the exam on his first attempt after graduating from the Arellano University School of Law in June 2025.
In September 2025, Jickain posted a photo after finishing the Bar exams, saying: "Thank you to all who made my law school journey bearable, to those who wished me well, and to those who never left my side. Thank you. This journey is for those who are afraid to chase their dreams because it seems too hard. I represent the dreamers who feel they are not quite cut out for it. After everything, I still survived," he said.
Before becoming a lawyer, Jickain started as a ramp model at 16 and later entered showbiz, appearing in shows like Marina and Imortal. Even then, he often took breaks from acting to focus on his studies. He earned a Marketing degree from San Beda College, studied acting in New York, and even played for the Agila Flag Football Philippine Team.
Bar Boys follows the journey of four friends—Erik, Chris, Torran, and Josh—hoping to become lawyers and change the world. But as the realities of school and life set in, their friendship, values, and faith are put to the test. It starred Rocco Nacino, Carlo Aquino, Enzo Pineda, and Kean Cipriano.
In 2024, the film was adapted into a musical by Barefoot Theatre Collaborative.
After a successful run, the saga returns to the big screen for the 2025 Metro Manila Film Festival with the highly anticipated sequel, Bar Boys: After School.
