'A Walk to Remember' reboot officially in the works
Is A Walk to Remember one of your favorite films?
The 2002 movie is officially getting a reboot, Deadline reported on Thursday, Feb. 27.
According to the entertainment outlet, Monarch Media secured the rights for the upcoming adaptation based on the 1999 book of beloved author Nicholas Sparks.
Steve Barnett, Alan Powell and Vicky Patel for Monarch Media, Di Novi and Margaret French-Isaac for Di Novi Pictures, and Lowry and Patty Reed for Roserock Film will all be part of the producing team behind it.
Barnett expressed his excitement for the reboot, pointing out how the original film "has endured as a beloved coming-of-age drama, captivating audiences with its heartfelt story of young love, personal growth and the power of faith for decades."
"We could not be more excited to bring a new version of Nicholas Sparks’ timeless story to audiences and are particularly thrilled to work alongside the original film’s producers, Denise and Hunt," he continued.
Di Novi, for his part, said, "I am so grateful to Steve and Monarch Media for giving all of us the opportunity to bring this enduring and inspirational story of faith, hope and love to a new generation, all qualities we need now more than ever."
Lowry also said he's "delighted to be bringing this timeless story to a new generation of moviegoers, and it’s great to be working with Denise again and the Monarch team."
Other details, including the cast and release date, have yet to be announced.
Directed by Adam Shankman, A Walk to Remember tells the story of two teenagers who are complete opposites: religious teenager Jamie Sullivan (played by Mandy Moore) and bad boy Landon Carter (played by Shane West). They unexpectedly fall in love and realize the importance of love and forgiveness as they discover more about each other.
