Parts of EDSA to close starting Feb. 1 for MRT-7 construction

Motorists, plan your trips accordingly.

Starting Sunday, Feb. 1, portions of EDSA near West and North Avenues in Quezon City will be closed to traffic to make way for MRT-7 girder launching activities, the Metropolitan Manila Development Authority and Department of Tourism announced.

These closures are necessary to safely install a steel superstructure connecting the MRT-7 North EDSA turnback track.

The closures will specifically affect the two outermost lanes on the northbound side and the two innermost lanes on the southbound side of EDSA near North Avenue. These areas will house tower support systems essential for the construction process.

While MMDA Chairman Atty. Don Artes expects minimal disruption during nighttime partial closures. He warned that full closures for lifting activities will have a significant impact on daily traffic.

To manage the expected congestion, a joint force of traffic enforcers from the MMDA, the Quezon City government, and DOTr private contractors will be stationed along the affected route. New traffic signage is also being installed to guide road users through the rerouting schemes. Motorists are encouraged to monitor updates and plan for delays as these critical infrastructure works proceed.

Lane closures

Temporary lane closures will be implemented during girder launching activities which will be done from 10:00 PM to 4:00 AM. During lane closures, two zipper lanes will be opened at the opposite direction to lessen the activity’s impact to motorists and commuters.
