Passengers left dangling 100 feet in the air after ride suddenly stops due to low voltage
Fair visitors were left dangling 100 feet in the air after their Vertigo ride malfunctioned in North Carolina.
According to a report by PEOPLE Magazine, John Wesley Waugh, the Director of Communications for the North Carolina Department of Labor, confirmed the incident that took place at the North Carolina State Fair in Raleigh last week. He said it was due to a low-voltage problem.
The fault caused the ride, which spins riders on swings mid-air, to stop automatically "as a precaution as part of the safety system installed," per the media outlet.
"The ride came to a controlled stop, allowing for the safe and timely manual evacuation of all patrons," Waugh said, adding that "at no point was anyone at risk."
The precaution was performed "exactly as intended," he noted.
The length of time the riders were stuck there remains unknown.
The company that manages the attraction, however, said that the affected individuals were offered a free ride after what happened.
