Heart Evangelista has spoken candidly about her painful journey to motherhood, revealing that she underwent two surrogacy attempts after suffering multiple miscarriages.

The 40-year-old actress recalled her journey during an Instagram Live on Sept 1, where she also opened up about her struggles.

“I actually tried surrogacy. I did it twice, and it took a lot from me. Usually, when you get your eggs frozen, it’s just one injection—but I had a very complicated case,” Heart confirmed.

According to her, the doctors were only able to harvest four eggs, of which only two were viable—a boy and a girl.

However, the girl, whom they named Ameera, did not make it, and only the boy, whom they named Francis, became the very last viable egg, which they proceeded to use for surrogacy.

“Then my husband surprised me, because I wasn’t ready to give up on my very last egg. He gave the call to go ahead with the surrogate for my baby boy, Francisko,” she continued.

The pregnancy lasted for four months before the surrogate miscarried.

“I was buying things already, I was very excited and hopeful. But then… yeah, we lost him too,” she shared sadly.

Despite the heartbreak, Evangelista said she chooses to move forward by focusing on her career and caring for her and her husband Chiz Escudero’s children from his previous marriage, twins Joaquin and Cecilia, whom she has raised since they were four years old

“I already have two kids—twins—that I’ve been taking care of since they were four years old….Technically, they’re my stepkids, but I consider them my own,” she said.

Evangelista has been open about her longing for motherhood and the heartbreaking losses she has endured after experiencing pregnancy.

She lost twin babies in a miscarriage in 2018 and, in September 2022, underwent in vitro fertilization, which turned out to be "one of the toughest, challenging times" of her life as her body did not react well to the medicine she was injected with.
