McDonald’s celebrates National Bike Month with Tour de McDo Rizal and an irresistible McDo App Cyclist Meal offer

In a time where cars rule the streets, it’s refreshing to see more Filipinos choosing to ride their bicycles and experience the road differently. Whether they’re out for a casual spin, a lung-busting effort, or simply an essential ride to their destination, they’re helping to keep the air a little cleaner for everyone.

As the country celebrated National Bike Day on Nov. 23, McDonald’s is pedaling into their commitment to implement environmentally friendly innovations in their services under their “Green and Good” program this time through “Tour De Mcdo,” a series of events designed specifically to promote sustainable active mobility.

This initiative is taking place in various parts of the Philippines, with the first tour in the East taking place in Antipolo, Rizal, a local gem famed for its winding uphill routes and majestic views—a true test for any cyclist’s legs and lungs.

Fellowship among riders

Melvin Visda, who is a McDonald’s employee and part of their own cycling club, arrived at the Mambugan branch as early as 5:00 a.m. on Nov. 23 to participate in the morning ride. Having been a cyclist for almost 13 years now, he shared that he enjoys the sense of fellowship and camaraderie that naturally forms among riders.

“I’m also into mountain biking, so anti-stress. Focus ka sa trail eh, nawawala ‘yung anxiety,” Visda said.

He strives to bike a minimum of twice a week, and this has helped him become a lot healthier, a change he’s proud to maintain.

Ken Marasigan, meanwhile, captured everyone’s attention when he came strolling in with his three-year-old corgi, Maple, strapped behind his back.

Ken has been biking for more than a decade, making sure to squeeze in a ride at least five times a week.

“Right now, I’m enjoying biking because of Maple,” Marasigan said. “Hindi siya makulit. Every time na kukunin ko na ‘yung bag niya, excited na siya, nagwa-wag na ‘yung tail niya. Tapos kapag kinuha ko na ‘yung helmet niya at ‘yung shades niya, alam niya na.”

For Visda and Marasigan, Antipolo’s winding roads and uphill climbs offer the perfect playground to test their endurance and enjoy the thrill of cycling.

“Nandito lahat ng klase ng trail. Mayroong fine road, mayroong single track trail. Kung gusto mong road bike, pwede din. Kumbaga, parang nandito na lahat ng klase ng route na pwede mo puntahan,” Visda said.

Discount on filling post-ride value meal

To sweeten their post-ride recovery, McDonald’s is offering cyclists a special meal deal: up to 41% off their 1-pc. Golden Chicken Curry with Egg, Rice, and Small Orange Juice—slashed from P191 to just P109.

Pat Giron, community lead of San Ride Bukas, talked about why this promo is a win for riders.

“As a cyclist myself, important ‘yan kasi if you're doing a long ride, if you're doing a coffee ride, something that we always look forward to is ‘yung mga stops namin, so it's really nice for McDonald's that they were able to highlight a specific meal for cyclists. Not only the price point is good, but at the same time, ito ‘yung usual na inoorder ng mga cyclists na food namin,” Giron said.

More than having a discounted meal, McDonald’s biking challenge underscored the importance of choosing eco-friendly transportation.

“McDonald’s acknowledges the fact that we need to further push this, not only for our environment, but also for the health of the people, to encourage them to actually be more active,” Giron emphasized.

Giron is encouraging more people to give cycling a try and experience the beauty of the Philippines’ gorgeous bike trails.

Thankfully, the “Tour de McDo” doesn’t just hit the brakes in Rizal. Denise Barrameda, Senior Manager for Corporate Communications of McDonald’s Philippines, said that it will have a lot more routes in different cities across the country.

She added that “Tour de McDo” has already brought cyclists through some of the most popular routes. “We have different routes from Manila, Laguna, Pampanga, and lloilo. These are some of the favorite cycling routes,” she said.
