This bank gave free rides on its ‘Freedom Bus’ as it started letting customers make fund transfers without a fee
Ever found yourself overwhelmed by the small expenses you have to make every day? It could be how much you have to spend on your commute to and from work, or, say, transfer fees during online transactions. While they are not high, they can still add up and affect your finances without realizing it.
GoTyme Bank, one of the fastest-growing banks in the Philippines, trended on social media as it made things lighter for commuters in late October. By treating them to free rides during rush hour last Oct. 22 and 24 with their latest campaign, the bank let commuters feel the convenience and freedom that come with being its customer.
Commuters who signed up enjoyed free rides on GoTyme Bank’s “Freedom Bus,” which displayed the bank’s branding. For two days, the campaign offered two morning time slots from Robinsons Antipolo to One Ayala, and two afternoon time slots—one from One Ayala to SM Masinag and another from One Ayala to Robinsons Antipolo.
The complimentary trips came with a relaxation session as passengers were given a “Freedom Bus” calm kit that contained hand sanitizer, inhaler, mini massager, small water bottle, eye mask, and a relaxation guide. Each of them was also handed out a special ticket for another free ride on the same vehicle.
Here’s another bonus: Celebrity endorser Carla Abellana alongside GoTyme Bank President and CEO Nate Clarke even joined the commuters on their ride during the first day.
Clarke likened transfer fees to rush hour traffic, describing them as “unnecessary delays on your journeys to financial freedom.” Noting that "every peso counts,” he then announced that GoTyme Bank is now offering 20 free InstaPay transfers every month to any bank permanently, bringing delight to existing customers and potential users alike.
Clarke also thanked Abellana for being with them at the time. “We admire her courage in speaking up for better customer service, and we’re proud to stand with her in that advocacy.”
Lance Gokongwei, the Head of Gokongwei Group and the President and CEO of JG Summit Holdings, meanwhile, joined the "Freedom Bus" riders the following day.
“This is our small way of helping make things a little easier for you,” he said. “You don’t need to have a GoTyme Bank account nor are there any conditions for you to enjoy your ride. All we want is for you to have a first-hand feel of how we make banking beautiful for our customers.”
Commuters were allowed to inquire about GoTyme Bank during the ride and sign up for an account at their chosen drop-off points, where kiosks were set up.
While free rides on the GoTyme “Freedom Bus” were only available for a limited time, the bank’s 20 free InstaPay transfers are here to stay for good to help you move your money with ease. You can expect your free transfers to get renewed automatically on the first day of every month.
“We’re here to make your journey lighter, whether that’s moving your money without fees or helping you get home with a smile. It’s freedom you can ride, and freedom you can bank on,” GoTyme Bank said.
“This move reinforces our mission to remove friction in everyday transactions, making banking more inclusive, accessible, and aligned with the lifestyle of modern Filipinos,” it added.
The bank has consistently made efforts to do away with the uniform P15 transfer fee in other banks for its customers.
Prior to the 20 free InstaPay transfers, GoTymeBank used to offer a “Pay One, Free One” setup, letting users pay as low as P8 for the first transfer and P0 for the following transaction.
GoTyme Bank began its operations in the Philippines in October 2022 and has since been providing Pinoys with a reliable, hassle-free, and affordable banking experience. It now has over 7.5 million users.
